Wellbeing for staff

As a school, we take staff wellbeing seriously and have introduced a number of measures to support staff in many different ways.

The Staff Forum are looking at the Education Staff Wellbeing Charter and have asked staff to prioritise the criteria. 

Priorities identified by KJS staff in order:

  1. We should drive down unnecessary workload
  2. We should prioritise staff mental health
  3. We should give staff the support they need to take responsibility for their own and others wellbeing
  4. We should give managers access to tools and resources they need to support the wellbeing of those they line manage
  5. We should give staff a voice in decision making
  6. We should establish a clear communications policy
  7. We should support staff to progress in their careers
  8. We should champion and enable flexible working
  9. We should include a sub strategy for protecting leader wellbeing and mental health
  10. We should hold ourselves accountable including by measuring staff wellbeing

Create a good behaviour culture as a criteria is already focused on by a staff working party. 

What we have done so far:

  • Faculty marking policies are being reviewed in Curriculum Team Meetings.
  • Duties have been reduced for teaching staff to cut workload.
  • Staff meetings are continually reviewed and have been reduced when appropriate.
  • The number of staff emails have been reduced, for example, the Senior Leadership Group do group updates rather than separate emails.
  • Ian Rimmer as Principal regularly discusses 1265 hours with union representatives to ensure clarity and transparency.
